There’s an old saying that goes, “a bad day fishing still beats a good day at work.” But Instor’s Director of Sales for the Southwest region Garrick McPherson gets the best of both worlds.
Southwest Sales Director Reels ‘Em In
With a recent win at the Kings of Cowtown Bass Fishing Tournament in Texas earlier this month, McPherson combined his love for fishing with his competitive nature to bring home a victory.
Set at three lakes - Eagle Mountain, Lake Worth and Lewisville Lake near Dallas, the tournament is “a true test of will and stamina,” McPherson says. The qualification-only event is limited to 65 teams and is held under extremely hot and humid conditions. McPherson and teammate Dusty Spurgin made a dramatic comeback after ranking 7th going into the last day of the event. In Lewisville, the duo brought in 26.86 pounds of fish, giving them just enough for the overall win.
McPherson says he’s been a competitive fisherman for 27 years.
“I entered my first tournament when I was 17 and zeroed in that event,” he says. “However, I won the second tournament that I entered and have been ‘hooked’ ever since.”
According to McPherson, the Kings of Cowtown is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the area and was founded in 2006.
“The competition is very stiff, in fact, it even includes a few former FLW & Bassmaster touring professionals, all gunning for the trophy,” he says. “It’s one of my most cherished victories and it’s one that I will never forget.”
McPherson and Spurgin are sponsored by Moritz Chevrolet. Check out the photos of Garrick and his haul from the weekend. See if you can spot the Instor logo on his boat, as well.
