Microsoft has announced plans to build a third large scale multi-phase data center in West Des Moines, Iowa. The project, called Project Osmium is slated to be the largest data center Microsoft has built to date in the United States. The first phase of Project Osmium will begin in 2017. Microsoft is expected to complete the project by 2022.
